From climate crisis to climate justice

An embodied exploration of pathways towards change

During the four days of the workshop we will use popular education methodologies, including Theatre of the Oppressed (TO), and The Work that Reconnects to explore:
– what the climate crisis is and what consequences it has on a global and local level
– how the climate crisis affects us personally
– our visions of climate justice including the social and ecological dimensions
– different action possibilities and maybe prepare an action to be undertaken during the climate camp

Schedule:
1: Intro: getting to know each other, building group agreements and exploring the different aspects of the Climate Crisis
2: How does the Climate Crisis affect us personally?
3: Climate Justice; what does it look like?
4: Action! NVDA training, option to prepare an action or develop a short theatrical presentation to share during the camp.

Methods:
Popular Education: is based on the work of Paulo Freire and designed to empower people to recognise their own embodied and intuitive knowledge and to take responsibility for their own learning. Popular education techniques work on the principle of accessing and bringing to awareness and availability for sharing the experiential knowledge of everyone in the group. In popular education we are concerned with linking theory to practice and learning to enable social action.
Theatre of the Oppressed: TO is a collection of different participative theatre techniques where participants learn to face, analyse and overcome situations of oppression from their daily lives. We will use different methologies that are part of the TO method such as image theatre, newspaper theatre and forum theatre. Goals are increasing awareness, embodied learning, collective empowerment and social transformation.
The Work That Reconnects: We use group and pair work techniques based on Joanna Macy's theWork that Reconnects to support people in embodied temporal reflection.
We build our workshops using the action learning cycle, encouraging learners to move from habitual action towards reflection, analysis and transformation of their experience.

Target group:
We welcome participants from any ethnic, social and religious background, sexual orientation and gender identity. We hope to provide support for all participants and are open to feedback about this.
